Kashmir is surrounded by the mountains of the Himalaya range and the Pir Panjal range from the north and south respectively. It is said that the Mughals had laid Srinagar’s famous Mughal Gardens, which are Shalimar, Nishat and Chashme Shahi.
Kashmir is a land of beautiful landscapes and experiences various seasons. In winter, Kashmir turns into a fascinating winter land. You can go skiing and sledge riding along the slopes of Gulmarg. In spring, Kashmir’s hills and meadows gives life to the greeneries, trees and flowers after the cold winter months. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, located in Srinagar, is the largest tulip garden in Asia. The valley is distinctively marked by lakes, exquisite forests, mighty mountains and lush meadows.
Srinagar is the largest city in Kashmir. Being known as the Lake City, it is the hub of Kashmir. The Dal lake and The Nagin lakes in Kashmir are pristine and stunning, making it a popular destination for tourists to experience the scenic views which reflects the natures’ beauty at its best.
The Dal Lake is Srinagar’s major tourist attraction spot. It is known as the ‘Srinagar’s Jewel’ or ‘Jewel in the crown’. The best way of exploring the lake is by a Shikara boat. A shikara boat ride is incredibly peaceful and soothing. The Nagin lake lies on the foothills of Mount Zabarwan. A haven for nature -lovers, the Nagin lake is flanked by beautiful willow and poplar trees in a tranquil setting.
Kashmir boasts a rich heritage of arts and crafts. It is famous for its lovely pashminas, silk and wool carpets, rugs, wood carvings, paper machie, embroidered shawls, bed sheets, table-runners, embroidery curtains, copper-wares and silver-wares, stone crafts, phool kari items, crewel embroidery items amongst others.
